Position Overview The Corporate Development Officer is one of two fundraising members of the organization responsible for Fundraising programs generating giving towards operating, restricted, and endowment funds as determined by the Board of Directors. The Development annual revenue goal is $1.6 million. Each member of the Foundation staff is deeply engaged in the organization’s twin missions of raising support for the Foundation and the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. The Corporate Development Officer is the Foundation lead for seeking support for the Foundation from corporations and foundations.
Organizational Overview The Foundation for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, Inc. (Baldrige Foundation – www.baldrigefoundation.org) is a not-for-profit IRS designated 501(c)(3) corporation organized to assist the United States Secretary of Commerce with his/her legislative authority under the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Improvement Act of 1987. The purpose of this act, Public Law 100-107, was to enhance the competitiveness of U.S. businesses. Its scope has since been expanded to healthcare and education organizations (in 1999) and to nonprofit/government organizations (in 2007) and in cybersecurity (in 2017).
Key Responsibilities Primary responsibilities include broadening and deepening corporate relationships, introducing corporate & foundation leaders to the Baldrige Foundation mission, researching corporate and foundation philanthropic processes, and submitting proposals. The Corporate Development Officer produces fundraising and outreach materials, with the assistance of the Vice President of Marketing, drafts executive correspondence and prepares and delivers presentations to both individuals and groups. The Corporate Development Officer is the primary staff member responsible for securing sponsorships for the annual Quest for Excellence ® Conference. Additionally, as a team, all members of the Foundation staff support other staff members as required. Development and fundraising activities are planned and coordinated with the President/CEO. He or she will participate in some evening and weekend events and travel occasionally. The Corporate Development Officer reports to the President/CEO.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Five or more years of development/fundraising experience, some of which must be in Corporate & Foundation giving.
  • This professional should be knowledgeable in fundraising strategies and have demonstrated success in meeting and exceeding targets.
  • Superb relationship-building skills and must be able to plan and coordinate complex events.
  • Professionally capable of, and motivated to achieve, multi-level relationships with senior executives from multiple sectors, including intergovernmental agencies, private industry, and non-profit organizations.
  • Exceptional communications skills – speaking, writing, and interpersonal.
  • Outcome driven with the ability to respond effectively to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Proficiency in using the Microsoft Officer suite of applications.
  • Ability to travel within the United States.
